Brilliant story and powerhouse performances!!!:)" Do you like reading comic books ? i know i do i love reading comic books i have been reading them since i was a child...i remember being 7 years old and thinking to myself i would love to be like spiderman or batman in the comics just kicking some a+s and fighting crime for the better good. Supposed your dreams of being a superhero were not enough and that you wanted to take it the next step which is what if you really wanted to be a superhero in real life...do you think you can pull it off. Well Dave Lizewski tried it & believe me its not as easy as it looks to transform yourself into Kick ass.
this brilliant story is about a nerdy high school kid who is obsessed with comic books also known as a comic book geek who lives in NY ask his partners the most important question that ever which is HOW COME NOBODY'S EVER TIRED TO BE A SUPERHERO? its a very funny and brilliant question which causes debate but yet makes Dave wonder. As his friends laugh at him at the idea of being a superhero Dave decide to prove the point by going on the internet and ordering a wetsuit that is green and yellow decides to find answers to his own question. Dave who is inexperienced to be superhero goes thru some problems like being stabbed, kicked, punched and put in the hospital in a hit and run. After months in the hospital...he recovers and tries it again this time he kick some serious ass and it gets all over youtube and he becomes a youtube celebrity and become a phenomenon while capturing the imagination of the public...What happens next is the public starts becoming superheroes as well ...the highly trained and bad ass team of big daddy and hitgirl join the scene and they are furious bunch of killers who make batman and robin look like pussies...they have a personal issue and that is with a criminal lord name Frank D'Amico and Kick ass is brought into a world of bullets and blood and before the movie ends there is a bullet fest showdown that make wish that this movie was never over. At the end you have to say to yourself damn i wish i was on Kick ass side to fight crime and punishment.
Now i saw this movie in the theater because my brother and I were excited about this because we read the papers and the critics really loved this film plus i read the comic and i was very interested in seeing this movie and i have to say that this is the third greatest comic book movie of our time. Not since kill bill has there been this much excitement over this movie and it was. The theater was packed and i have to tell you that the reason why this 2 hour movie was so good is for the following reasons....first all let me start with the cast.
the performances in this movie was top notched---i was very surprised that some of these performances were not nominated for any awards like oscar or emmmy. Let me start with Aaron Johnson as kick ass...amazing performance i didn't know that he was british actor but hey i dont care if he was from africa this dude can act and i love his character as Dave because he played a excellent nerdy comic book geek and he does a great job with the voice over when telling the story of what is happening in his world. he was really funny and he wasnt trying to over-act he really showed us how hard it is to be kick ass because i am sure he was insecure about being a superhero at first because his friends would laugh at the idea but like in the movie when fantasizing isnt enough he decides to grow some balls and stand up for what he truly believes in that is stop crime and protect the innocence. I dont think that michael cera could of done kick ass or any other actor for that matter. i think that maybe andrew garfield could of been kick ass. When they were looking for an actor to play at that time the untitled spiderman movie which is not called the amazing spiderman...i was hoping that Aaron would of gotten the part but i see that they went with Andrew Garfield which is okay i still love who they picked for the role. So brilliant acting from Aaron.

ther great performances in this movie that i loved where nicholas caged as big daddy he gave the performance of his life because he truly funny and he did act like Adam west from batman in the 60's but still he was a believable character with some of the funniest lines in the movie and believe me after watching some of the crap he has done he needed this one and the director got a great and powerful performances out of him. I loved Chris Mintz-Plasse who played kick ass arch nemesis red mist i am so glad that his Mclovin character was finally over and when he play this awkward comic book geek who just happen to be related to a vicious mob crime lord you have to say to yourself this was a brilliant origin story to how red mist became enemies with kick ass.
I had to save the best for last no pun intended...that is Chloe Moretz aka Hit Girl...she should of been nominated for best supporting actress for her brilliant acting. It was a star making performance as the cool, really kick ass cursing every second masked chick who just happen to be 11 years old but she turns 21 she is going to be a hot sex symbol so i feel sorry for the daddy who has to watch over her. but after watching her performance as hit girl there was a lot of controversy over the word c*nt she was using in the movie but who cares she was still the foul mouth and blood thirsty hit girl that stole the movie from Aaron who in the first half of the movie was brilliant but Chole stole the show with she amazing performance just you brilliant combat, acrobatic and weapon training that really paid off at the end. I cant wait to see more movies that she does because i see a future oscar waiting for you Chloe.
The story and directing was amazing...i love that this comic book movie didnt force you to like these characters they just grew on you. you can relate to these characters because i am not going to lie i goto a lot of comic book stores and i love when comic book dudes like to talk about their favorite superheroes and talk about who would win in a battle like can batman beat up THE hulk or can superman beat thor? I know that some of these same people who are in the comic book stores are thinking exactly like Dave which is what would it be like to be a superhero and be part of saving society from crime. I like that the writers and director explore that world and show us that its plenty crazy what its like to be a superhero with the damages of being hurt, the hospital bills, explaining to authorities why you are wearing a mask and more importantly its about experience. You cant just jump into an mask and start fighting crime without some kind of training . This movie was very new and fresh and i love the photography in this movie it didnt look low budget at all it very gritty type of story that really shows us how dangerous NY can be?
I know that there are some people who think its retarded to be a superhero but i will say to you and this is the truth that there are actual kick ass type superheroes who do live in our society that dress up like superheroes and help fight crime...maybe not in the kick ass type of way but they call the police on drug dealers, report their drug deals and they help the homeless by giving food and water and blankets if they need them. So it is possible that this can happen and i dont laugh at them at all they are here in NY and other places in the united state that are just happy living their dream of being a superhero the way Dave did in the movie. So i say if you have the desire to be a superhero i say go for it but remember this is real crime which means that if you die in this comic book this is for real. I will not lie i thought about it but you have to be really strong to do the kick ass type of crime fighting because you have to train your body, make a design, what kind of superhero are you going to be? its just a lot of work into that. Plus i am sure its expensive to be a superhero. The point i am making is that there are people who really do this in real life like kick ass did in the movie but i prefer to see it in the movie we pay cops with our tax paying money to fight crime so let them do their job and if i want to help be a good citizen i can do that. I will read my comics and stick to being a comic book geek.
So to conclude this review i will say that Overall, great movie. Great cast, great fight choreography, great soundtrack, and a great setup for a sequel! and i cant wait for Kick ASS 2 BALLS TO THE WALL...is what is going to be called. I am very excited about this movie I read the first issue of the comic and its really good it didnt have a lot of blood in the new issue but i am sure it will. This was very gory and bloody film with some sex and nudity for people who enjoy that kind of stuff. So keep in mind that that this is a very intense movie with some graphic content but overall i love the movie it was worth5bucks no pun intended there ;)
This movie does get a 5 star for everything story,acting, directing etc. It should get a 500 star but i cant go over 5 so overall grade this is a 5.0 star movie that deserve your attention and its worth checking out afterall this is a dangerous world we live in especially in NY but when kick ass and hit-girl are on the job they will kick some serious ass or die trying!
